Verse Off Collection - Week One

.
Thanks so much to everyone who called in yesterday and participated in the inaugural Verse Off. We had a lot of fun with it and are already looking forward to Friday's special edition - then doing it all over again every Sunday in May.

If you missed out, and are wondering what a verse-off might be, see yesterday's post.

Meanwhile, the results are in for the first Verse Off - and today I'm delighted to share with you the rhyming responses to yesterday's gorgeous photo.

So, here goes:

Two terrapins went scrambling
Up a branch above the water
Was amore cause for rambling?
Or was this Mama leading Daughter?
Who can tell?
Without a shell

*I* couldn't comment
'til they fell
A box on ear, a "Foolish child!"
Drifted up on river's tide.
'Wasn't *my* fault, Ma, 'twas you...
'I closed my ears as air turned blue...

From Sally Murphy :
Said Turtle One to Turtle Two
Won’t you follow me?
We’ll take this handy bridge
And head off to the sea.

Said Turtle Two to Turtle One
I’ll follow you, just so.
But think that you should be aware
There’s many miles to go.

Said Turtle One to Turtle Two
The road is hard, it’s true
But it is so much easier
When I travel it with you.

An acrostic by Jackie Hosking:
Two little turtles
Unbelievably cute
Rambling along with a
Toot, toot, toot
Little and cute in turtle-like shoes
Each little turtle
Stepping in twos

Dee White's contribution:
Two turtles sat on a fallen log

reflecting on what they saw,
"I wish", said the turtle to the other one,
"that our life wasn't such a bore."

So they pulled their heads in
and rolled off the log,
landing with an almighty splish.
A crocodile came and swallowed them whole,
and the turtles got their wish.

Janeen Brian wrote:
Two shelly wanderers
turtling on a log,
thinking that this greying slope
is nothing but a slog.

'Hey!' cried one turtle
to his mate called Jim,
'Wouldn't it be wonderful
if we could simply swim!'

Kathryn Apel said:
If what you see
is what you get
then may you never
once forget
that others see
the things you do…
reflections bouncing
back at you.

The Book Chook wrote:
Two by two the Maker said
So two by two we come
You get to see the sun and stars
I get to see your bum.

belka37's contribution:
Tiny tortoi
creeping, creeping
Two creep this way, two creep that
Mother tortoise
weeping, weeping
fearing lest her babes fall flat.

Texting, texting:
Are you sleeping
while you walk and climb this tree?
Tiny tortoi
hear me beeping,
Won’t you please come home to me?

From JRPoulter:
Out of the blue and into the blue,
One by one, me and you.
You first, then me,
How far can we go? Let’s see!

Lynn W's contribution:
Come for a walk, we need to talk
Said Mrs tortoise to her mate

So he took a stroll along the pole
With his slow and sluggish gait

What is it now you silly old cow?
I want to get back to my date

The wrong thing to say, he’d rue the day
(she was more than a little irate)

she gave him a push, right in his tush
And she turned him into croc bait.

Stan Baker was a top uncle, with this contribution:

(Kat apologises for the double spacing, but for some reason the blog is being contrary.)

Two little Tortoises – or could it be four?

(A perfect reflection make two look like more.)

Two little Tortoises just out of the water

Basking in the sunlight because they thought they oughta.

Two little Tortoises poke their tiny heads out

To see if in their world there is anything to shout about.

One little Tortoise to the other says “Hey Bud,

Can you believe there’s a book called ‘This is the Mud’!”

Enjoy this verse-off? Wonderful! Then why not come back next week to do it all again with a new photo? We'll be versing off every Sunday during May - with an extra installment this Friday to celebrate the launch of This is the Mud!.
